Urad dal kheer is a traditional drink prepared in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu and this drink is prepared with healthy ingredients in it. Though this kheer calls for urad dal, dry ginger, palm sugar and cardamom, this payasam tastes absolutely delicious when served warm or else chilled. This drink is definitely an energy booster especially for girls and growing kids. Simple to prepare, this kheer gets ready very easily if you go for pressure cooking. Since i used palm sugar instead of jaggery or sugar, the addition of palm sugar aka panang kalkandu makes this delicious payasam more healthy as this palm sugar is loaded with many interesting medicinal values. Palm sugar helps a lot to deduce body heat and this sugar is rich is iron, obviously its definitely healthy with loads of nutritional values.

Barbari bread is a type of flat bread which is quite popular in Iran and its neighbouring Armenia. Barbari means our fathers or else related to Barbars in Persian language. Barbars are a group of people who lives in Eastern borders of Iran. Obviously not need to explain that this bread comes from this group.Coming to this Bread, its often eaten with cheese with herbs, jam, or else simply with a cup of tea for breakfast. Its almost like our Indian Naan bread, and this bread is also known as Naan-E-Barbari or else Noon Barbari. However Persian also makes this bread as much as like Iranian. This bread is usually shaped as a longish oval and this bread calls for roomal, a flour paste prepared using flour and baking soda. This flour paste helps a lot to stretch the yeasted dough and this paste is also used to spread over the bread to give a deep brown colour after baking.

Zaatar is a mix of herbs prepared along with salt and sesame seeds. This spice mix is quite popular in Middle Eastern foods. Zaatar is easily available commercially though its quite easy to make yourself at home. Thyme leaves and Sumac plays an important role for making this aromatic spice mix. Sumac is characterized by deep red berries and sold usually dried and grounded into a coarse powder with a tart, cranberry like flavor. Zaatar is the Arabic name of this spice blend, which is usually used for flavoring else in baking. Zaatar was my favourite and i love this spice mix in anything. My daughter travelled to London with her friends for a long weekend and what she bought for me was some chocolates and few baking stuffs. Obviously i couldnt resist to use the golden syrup she bought all the way from London. Actually golden syrup is a thick amber coloured form of inverted sugar syrup made of refining sugar care or sugar beet juice. Mostly used in baking, this syrup can be used very well instead of honey. If you are vegan or if you dont like honey you can replace honey very well with this amber coloured golden syrup. Am an ardent fan of sticky puddings, when i planned to bake some pull apart buns with this golden syrup, i didnt hesitate a second to go with a sticky golden syrup swirl buns with chocolate chips and sugar pearls.

Anda means Egg, Palak means Spinach, hence Anda Palak curry, this greeny egg curry is one of the delicious curry i have tried recently for our Sunday lunch. Trust me who ever loves spinach and egg will definitely go crazy if they have this curry. Served along with plain rice or else with flavored pulavs, this curry makes a prefect pair to enjoy without any fuss. Though this curry makes an excellent accompaniment with rice, you still enjoy this curry with rotis very well. We all know very well that spinach is loaded with loads of nutrients, they are excellent source of Iron and Folic acid. Spinach is also a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids. While eggs are good source of proteins and vitamins as well, when these two ingredients gets cooked together this curry makes an excellent nutritious curry.
